Ferocious Fruit is an interactive line of modular ceramics for the wall. I create the components and the purchasers get to do the arranging. The pieces are slip cast in a low fire white clay, hand painted with underglaze colours, biscuit fired to 1920 degrees Fahrenheit, clear glazed and re-fired to 1888 degrees Fahrenheit.

There are 6 steps to creating a casting mold. First I make a model in clay; then make a two part mold in plaster of the model; do trial castings to make sure that the mold works; then make a rubber mold from the trial mold from which I then make multiple production casting molds in plaster.

From the casting process on each piece is handled over 32 times. This includes the sanding and finishing of the green pieces, hand painting of anywhere from 17 to 30 coats of underglaze, loading and unloading the piece in the kilns, labeling and storing and finally shipping.
